RAPA NUI

Cuando el avión despegó rumbo a la isla de Pascua, el viaje se convirtió en un triunfo.
- Ahora sí damos definitivamente la vuelta al mundo […].
« Estamos sobrevolando Rapa Nui (Isla de Pascua). »
Se veían los acantilados del pedazo de tierra más aislado del mundo, apenas casas, tan sólo la pista de aterrizaje en el centro. Carecía de toda información sobre esta zona de la tierra.
Nunca habíamos pensado hacer escala ahí, lo habíamos decidido en Santiago.
Habíamos llegado a Pascua. La isla donde se encuentran estatuas pesadas de mirada altiva, ecuestre, provacadora, intrigante. Todos se cuestionaban cómo lograron en el pasado, en una isla desarbolada poner aquellas figuras erectas después de transportarlas desde las canteras de piedra situadas al pie del volcán Rano Raraku.
Se habla de seres extraterrestres, de fuerzas extrañas. Surgerentes teorías de una fuerza mental que habían logrado desarollar los hombres de la época, también se cuestiona acerca de la brusca desaparición de los constructores y de su terrible final.
La isla de Pascua no es un paraíso donde la gente puede vivir c-o-n(1) el simple esfuerzo de recoger las frutas de los árboles o la pesca en el mar ; no hay ni un solo caudal de agua, por pequeño que sea y además la tierra más cercanas es… la Luna.

Los menores no podrán « beber » en la calle

El Gobierno que preside José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero se ha marcado como objetivo que los menores no consuman alcohol, toda vez que ya están suficientemente acreditados (1) los daños que éste produce sobre la salud humana.

El primer paso en este horizonte podría traducirse en una prohibición por ley del consumo de alcohol a menores en la vía publica y, del mismo modo, en responsabilizar a los padres o tutores de las sanciones pertinentes(2).

Aunque las medidas coercitivas (3) no acaban ahí. De hecho, el Ejecutivo (4) también tiene previsto limitar la publicidad de todo tipo de bebidas alcohólicas, o al menos asÍ se deduce del anteproyecte de ley (5) visto ayer por el Consejo de Ministros.

Según explicó la propia ministra de Sanidad, Elena Salgado, tras la reunión del Consejo, ese anteproyecto de ley para limitar el consumo y venta de alcohol a menores responde a la existencia de un « gravísimo problema de salud pública ».

Salgado recordó que la edad de inicio al alcohol en España continúa bajando hasta situarse en los 13 años y que el 38 por cien de los adolescentes que reconocen haberse emborrachado (6) en el último mes asegura haberlo hecho un avez cada diez días. Cifras muy preocupantes.

Schlank aber krank

Gibt es noch Menschen, die sich normal ernähren ? Dies Frage stellt man sich momentan immer öfter. Einerseits tragen klapperdürre (1) Stars wie Keira Knightley, Victoria Beckham und Nicole Richie ihre Knochen zur Schau. Andererseits gab es noch nie so viele übergewichtige (2) Menschen wie heute. Wir anderen stecken meist irgendwo dazwischen und jammern über die zwei, drei Kilos, die wir gern weniger auf den Hüften hätten.

Jede vierte Frau sagt in der GEWIS-Umfrage für Freudin, dass sie sich beim Essen bremsen muss. Und 17 Prozent gestehen, dass sie öfter mal heimlich, also mit schlechtem Gewissen, zu Süssigkeiten greifen. Es scheint so, als ob ein Grossteil der Menschen ein gesundes Verhältnis zum Essen verloren hat. Mehr oder weniger ausgeprägte (3) Essensspleens hat fast jede Frau - die eine vermeidet konsequent Fett, die andere isst abends nach 18 Uhr nichts mehr. Gefährlich wird es, wenn sich die Angewöhneiten ausbreiten und verselbständigen (4).
Eine einseitige Ernährung kann einen chronischen Nahrstoffmangel nach sich ziehen - mit gefährlichen Konsequenzen für Körper und Seele.

At the cinema with mum

Just as the lights were going down for the second time, and the censor's certificate
appeared on the screen to announce the beginning of the main feature, my mother
leaned over and started whispering across the top of my head.
'Ted, it-'s nearly six o'clock.'
'What about it?'
`Well, how long's this film going to go on?'
`I don't know. About ninety minutes, I suppose.'
'Well then we've got to drive all the way back. It'll be hours past his bedtime.' 'It won't matter just this once. It is his birthday, alter all.'
The credits had started and my eyes were fixed on the screen. The film was in black and white and the music, although it was not without a certain jokiness, somehow filled me with foreboding. 1
`And then there's dinner,' my mother whispered. `What are we going to do about dinner?'
`Oh, I don't know Stop somewhere on the way back.'
`But then we'll be even later.'
'Just sit back and enjoy it, can't you?'
But I noticed that for the next few minutes, my mother kept leaning towards the light in order to sneak regular glances at her watch. After that I don't know what she was doing, because I was too busy concentrating on the film.
It told the story of a nervous, mild-mannered man (played by Kenneth Connor) who was startled in his flat late one night by the arrival of a sinister solicitor. The solicitor had come to tell him that his rich uncle had recently died, and that he was required to travel immediately up to Yorkshire, where the reading of the will was to take place at the family home, Blackshaw Towers. Kenneth went up to Yorkshire by train in the company of his friend, a worldly bookmaker (played by Sidney James), and found that Blackshaw Towers was situated on a remote edge of the moors far from the nearest village. Failing to find a taxi, they accepted a lift in a hearse, which left them stranded on the moors in die middle of a dense fog.
When they finally arrived at the house, they could hear the distant howling of dogs.

EL INSTITUTO CEVANTES, POR LA TELE

El nuevo canal difundira la cultura en espanol por todo el mundo a traves de internet

Cervantes.es - Instituto Cenvantes

A partir de esta tarde se podra ver por Internet el canal Cervantestv.es. Se trata de la propia cadena del Instituto Cervantes, que se convierte de este modo en la primera institucion europea dedicada a la difusion de la lengua y la cultura que cuenta con su propio canal de television digital. El encendido oficial sera esta tarde en su sede madrilena de la calle Alcala, en un acto al que asistiran la directora de la institucion, y las ministros de Asuntos Exteriores, de Educacion, y de Cultura.

Primer canal cultural en espanol : Cervantestv.es se convierte en el primer canal cultural de television en espanol y de cobertura mundial. El proyecto responde al objetivo des Instituto de apostar por las tecnologias de la informacion y la comunicacion y por el medio televisivo para reforzar su capacidad difusora de la lengua espanola y de lacultura en espanol. La entrada en funcionamiento de la cadena y de los nuevos portales en la Red, totalmente renovados, son el primer paso de la Plataforma Multimedia del Instituto Cervantes, a la que en breve se unira la radio por Internet.

Reportajes, entrevistas y formacion : Cervantestv.es odrecera boletines culturales, entrevistas, tertulias, reportajes, musica y documentales sobre la actualidad cultural de Espana y de los paises hispanohablantes, asi como sobre los mas de 5.000 actos culturales que se celebran anualmente en los casi 70 centros del Instituto. En principio, emitira cuatro horas diarias de producion propia e incluira un boletin diario de diez minutos, denominado Culturas. Gracias a acuerdos con entidades como el Reina Sofia y casa America, el Instituto podra ampliar los contenidos del canal on line. En septiembre, empezara a emitir el curso de espanol que el Instituto prepara en colaboracion con Radio Television Espanola (RTVE), que se calcula que seguiran dos millones de alumnos en el plazo de cinco anos.

Panic in the tunnel

Lola was accustomed to spending her holidays at her grandparents. They lived in a beautiful house in the countryside with a swimming pool and a lot of land where two ponies and a donkey gambolled about. This year, the young lady had asked for permission to bring two friends with her, because she used to get a little bored by herself. Her grandparents were delighted to accept. It would give the house a bit of a buzz. They were quite conscious of the fact that, at her age, their granddaughter needed some pals around. Marco was her best classmate and his sister, Estelle, who was one year younger, was the friend she went to dance class with.
Thus, the three of them had set off with tons of the usual advice from their parents. They were looking to the fortnight they were to spend together completely free. Lola had offered an amazing description of her grandparents as not uptight at all, and as being very young in their outlook and appearance. There were never any problems with them - they adored their granddaughter. She was entitled to do more or less what she liked as long as it wasn't dangerous.

Fathers get to share new mother's year of parental leave.

Mothers and fathers will be allowed to take six months off work together to look after their new baby, Nick Clegg will announce today.
Under plans to be unveiled by the Deputy Prime Minister , parents will be able to decide for themselves how to divide up parental leave amounting to a year. They will be able to take the time off in periods lasting for several months each at the same time to maximise their shared time with their baby.
However business groups warned that the changes- the seventh amendment to parental leave rules in a decade- would increase friction between staff and employers, who might be reluctant to grant the time off.
From 2015, millions of men will be allowed time off work to look after their babies when they were unable to do so previously.

The changes were welcomed by unions but criticised by some business groups.

Adam Marshall, of the British Chambers of Commerce, said: " Unfortunately, the proposals could raise unrealistic expectations about the level of flexibility most businesses will be able to accomodate".
